Their opponents for the next game, however, have also won two on the trot, and that always means more to a perennial underdog than someone with a better record. If there’s anything the Amazon Warriors have, it’s an undying spirit. Continuing a franchise after five final defeats and zero wins takes both a lot of heart and a lot of determination. In their most recent match, Guyana trudged to a meager 118 on an obviously terrible pitch. All seemed lost, but a solid bowling performance that featured some players boasting ridiculous T20 economy rates of 2.5, 3.0 and 3.33 saw them beat the Tallawahs convincingly - despite a defiant 52 from Andre Russell. Pumped from this victory, they will no doubt face the Zouks with renewed zeal. The fact that they won 4 of their last 5 encounters should also give them a mental advantage.

After their win against the Patriots, the Zouks are in a good place to enter the playoffs for only the second time in their miserable history in the CPL. When they won against Barbados, people might have said it was the doing of DLS rather than the players, but after their last match, they will no doubt be taken more seriously. Off to a fiery start, they did crumble, and it looked as though the Zouks everyone is used to would, but Mohammad Nabi gave them a good ending, and Scott Kuggeleijn and Roston Chase picked up 4 and 3 wickets respectively to cement the win. If their key players can continue to perform, the Zouks stand a good chance of making a deep run into the playoffs.

Match Prediction

Given the strength of Guyana’s lineup, they definitely stand as the favourites on paper. Expect Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer to keep up their good form, while Imran Tahir and Keemo Paul show their prowess with the ball.

The Zouks have the important advantage of having nothing to lose, and hopefully, they will be able to use that. Expect Andre Fletcher and Mohammad Nabi to strike with the bat while Scott Kuggeleijn and Roston Chase strike with the ball.
