In the topsy-turvy game of cricket, there’s nothing quite as sumptuous as a topsy-turvy bilateral series. This one has been a roller coaster, with each team winning alternatingly and making it a dead heat as we approach the fifth and final T20. The tension is tangible, and the next match has essentially become a do or die setup. With plenty on the line for both teams, and the ODI series waiting beyond that, this T20 series will undoubtedly have a thrilling conclusion. Before the players make their way to the middle, let’s take a look at the two sides.

India

Predicted XI for 5th T20 vs England

Virat Kohli (c), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rohit Sharma, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Chahar.

Preview and form

While England are only now facing it, It was a do or die situation for India starting from the last match, and they did. Batting first, their start wasn’t the best but Suryakumar Yadav’s raging 57 off 31 gave them the platform they needed for others to build on. Rishabh Pant added another 30, but it was Shreyas Iyer’s 37 off 18 that really gave the team the boost they needed to take the score to a rock-solid 185. On the defense, Shardul Thakur’s triple and Rahul Chahar’s double hauls helped India, but it was Hardik Pandya’s economical 4-0-16-2 that allowed them to keep England tied down for a narrow 8-run win.

India key players for 5th T20 vs England

Suryakumar Yadav: Finally getting the chance to bat, Yadav showed what he can do and definitely earned his place on the team for the last match.

Hardik Pandya: It has been a quiet series from Pandya with the bat, and we suspect things will change before it ends.

Shardul Thakur: After an incisive albeit performance, Thakur will be keen on picking up more wickets.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Somewhat of an unsung hero, Bhuvneshwar will have to take more than one wicket to really make a mark.

England

Predicted XI for 5th T20 vs India

Eoin Morgan (c), Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes.

Preview and form

It’s never a pleasant feeling to have to go from being one win away from winning to being in a deadly knockout situation, and losing that cushion now has a very real chance of hurting the visitors. Bowling first, despite striking at regular intervals, England just couldn’t pin India down at the right time. Jofra Archer’s four-wicket haul went in vain, as did Mark Wood’s competent 4-1-25-1. Chasing 185, Jason Roy did well at the top with 40 off 27, but the English kept losing wickets regularly. Ben Stokes’ superb 46 off 23, and Jonny Bairstow’s and Jofra Archer’s cameos took England agonizingly close, but not quite there as they finished on a slightly inadequate 177.

England key players for 5th T20 vs India

Jason Roy: Roy has been the best batsman for his team over the last four matches.

Jonny Bairstow: Bairstow has also been decent for the most part, but needs to step up if his team are to win the series.

Jofra Archer: Archer’s precision lives up to his name, and he will be England’s best weapon against Indian batsmen.

Mark Wood: Also solid with the ball, if England had one more bowler like this among their ranks, they would be near-unbeatable.

India vs England 5th T20 pitch report and weather conditions

For a pitch that saw the whole world complain about it just weeks ago, the surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium has come a long way. It contains plenty for bowlers and batsmen, with turn, movement, and pace all there for the taking. Expect scores of 180+ in the first innings to be essential.

Nothing has changed in the weather department - the air is still bone-dry, furnace-hot, and statue-still. That being said, those make for pretty decent conditions for cricket because it’s not going to rain.

Can India finally string two wins together when it matters the most? Or will the visitors continue their trend of winning the odd match to seal a remarkable series? Find out if our India versus England predictions come true on Saturday!
