In the first match of the Super League - a round where each team from group A and B plays against the teams from the other group that don’t correspond to their own standing in their group - we have the Pune Devils playing against the Bangla Tigers. The Devils finished dead last in Group B, while the Bangla Tigers were 3rd in Group A. In such a tightly contested tournament with such a bizarre format of both the matches and the progression of the teams, it’s really anybody’s game and standings become pretty irrelevant when the head-to-head matchups begin, so 4th versus 3rd isn’t really very different from 1st versus 4th. Either way, you can rest assured that it will be an action-packed cricket match, and before the cameras roll, let’s take a look at the teams.

Pune Devils

Predicted XI

Nasir Hossain (c), Ahmed Raza, Mohammad Amir, Munis Ansari, Chadwick Walton (wk), Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Karan KC, Kennar Lewis, Devon Thomas, Alex Davies, Hardus Viljoen.

Preview and form

After a disastrous second match, the Devils made a couple of adjustments to their lineup to boost their chances of winning the last match, but it just wasn’t to be. Batting first against Team Abu Dhabi, Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s 61 off 25 and a couple of cameos by Chadwick Walton and Devon Thomas managed to push the team to a healthy 129, but their bowling left a lot to be desired. Despite his 3 wickets, Hardus Viljoen gave away a whopping 36 runs from his 2 overs, and apart from Mohammad Amir, no one’s economy rate was below double figures, leading to the Devils losing by 5 wickets with 9 deliveries to go.

PD Key players

Tom Kohler-Cadmore: The British import has been great for the Devils so far, and remains their best and most attacking option right now.

Chadwick Walton: He didn’t quite have the innings he would have liked, but Walton is so very potent that it’s hard to not keep an eye on him.

Mohammad Amir: You can’t learn bowling from the Gods of swing and not be an excellent bowler.

Karan KC: With some polish, this Nepali fast bowler can truly go places.

Bangla Tigers

Predicted XI

Andre Fletcher (c), Afif Hossain, Qais Ahmad, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, Chirag Suri, Mohammad Irfan, Karim Janat, Aryan Lakra, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Tom Moores (wk).

Preview and form

You know you’ve messed up somehow when the opponent has a run rate of 16 per over, and that’s exactly how badly Group A’s 3rd team Bangla Tigers managed to drop the ball in their last match. Bowling first, their bowler Karim Janat was a godsend for his figures of 2-18, because everyone else was simply decimated. For context, 3 of the bowlers had economy rates of 18 or more, with the highest being 24 runs per over. Following this debauchery, the Tigers were faced with a mountainous target of 163 - the second-highest T10 total in Abu Dhabi’s tournament history.despite a brave attempt that involved a 53 from Andre Fletcher and a 42 from Chirag Suri, they could only get 132 and lost by 30 runs.

BT Key players

Andre Fletcher: With a name that’s synonymous with aggression and big hitting, Fletcher is the X factor for the Tigers.

Johnson Charles: Had he not been dismissed so early in the last match, his team may have had a better chance. Maybe next time.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman: This hasn’t been his best tournament, but I have a gut feeling Mujeeb will be great in this next game.

Karim Janat: A rising Afghan talent, Janat seems to be a reliable all-rounder.

Pune Devils vs Bangla Tigers weather conditions and pitch report

As has been usual lately in this part of the world, it will be a clear sky with no chance of rain and pleasant weather all around, with a strong breeze possibly messing with aerial shots.

When a tournament is played in this manner, the pitch hardly seems to be a factor and hardly changes. There’s plenty in it for batsmen and bowlers, that’s all we can say.

Can the Devils manage to outfox and outplay the Tigers? Or will the latter’s claws be too sharp and mind too cunning for such a feat? Find out if our Pune Devils versus Bangla Tigers predictions come true on Monday!
