We don’t usually begin this way, but we apologize for some erroneous information about the Abu Dhabi TCL in the previous articles which happened due to a massive amount of misinformation posted on various reputed sites regarding the tournament. Without pointing any direct fingers, we’ll just continue with our coverage with the initial amendment that this is, in fact, the fourth season of the Abu Dhabi TCL. After a resounding win in their first match, the Pune Devils are now at the top of Group B, and look strong in both departments, while the Qalandars will be keen on getting their feet wet in the tournament. A win for Pune would see them in a commanding position in their group, while a triumph for the Qalandars would see the onset of a power struggle within the group - especially with Team Abu Dhabi playing last place Gladiators later in the day. Before this power-packed match gets under way, let’s take a look at the two sides.

Pune Devils

Predicted XI

Nasir Hossain (c), Sam Wisniewski, Mohammad Amir, Munis Ansari, Chadwick Walton (wk), Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Karan KC, Kennar Lewis, Devon Thomas, Darwish Rasooli, Hardus Viljoen.

Preview and form

Contrary to what some sites are claiming, the Devils seem to be in possession of the services of English players Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Sam Wisniewski, as well as Bangladeshi T20 player Monir Hossain while not having the bevy of Sri Lankan talent they were stated to have by the aforementioned sites. With Malan quite possibly still on the way from Australia after his BBL failure with the Hobart Hurricanes, the other players have managed to grab a win for the Devils. Bowling first against the Gladiators, two excellent spells from captain Nasir Hossain and Munis Ansari saw them pick up 5 wickets between them and hamstring the Gladiators’ innings. Hunting for a relatively obtainable 105, Jamaican batsman Kennar Lewis went ham on the Gladiators bowlers for a powerful 57* off 28, and with small cameos from Kohler-Cadmore and Walton, managed to get to the target with 7 wickets and 4 deliveries to spare.

PD Key players

Chadwick Walton: He may not have scored much today, but one can’t underestimate the sheer power of this West Indian gem.

Kennar Lewis: After his innings today, he will be full of confidence and just needs to keep himself in control to repeat the feat.

Nasir Hossain: The talented all-rounder was brilliant in his role as a captain, and it remains to be seen just how good he can be.

Munis Ansari: With his surprisingly brilliant spell, the Omani has made a statement in this tournament.

Qalandars

Announced squad

Shahid Afridi (c), Fayyaz Ahmed, Sultan Ahmad, Sohail Akhtar, Asif Ali, Khurshid Anwar, Tom Banton, Ben Dunk (wk), Chris Jordan, Sharjeel Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Samit Patel, Sohail Tanvir, Ahmad Daniyal, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Mohammad Taha.

Predicted XI

Shahid Afridi (c), Sohail Akhtar, Asif Ali, Khurshid Anwar, Tom Banton, Ben Dunk (wk), Chris Jordan, Sharjeel Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Samit Patel, Sohail Tanvir.

Preview and form

Consisting almost exclusively of Pakistani and English players, the Qalandars are a mighty, star-studded squad. In their charge is one of the people who played T20 cricket in the ODI format long before the format was played professionally, Shahid Afridi. The Qalandars have Tom Banton, Sharjeel Khan, Asif Ali, and Ben Dunk as notable names with the bat, with the aforementioned Afridi, Samit Patel, and Azmatullah Omarzai as the primary all-rounders. Among bowlers, we have the deadly Sohail Tanvir, Chris Jordan, and the relatively unknown Sultan Ahmed. Overall, this team can challenge the best of them if they can bond well.

QAL Key players

Ben Dunk: After a thoroughly miserable BBL, Dunk is now back where he is valued most - with his fellow PSL players.

Tom Banton: The explosive English talent is a player to watch out for in T20s, and he should be equally deadly in T10s.

Shahid Afridi: Although his heyday with the bat is a thing of the past, Afridi is still an excellent bowler.

Sohail Tanvir: Pakistani fast bowlers have a way about them. Look away for long enough and you’ll see them celebrating a major wicket haul.

PD vs QAL weather conditions and pitch report

The desert air is more forgiving in the winter time, and the temperature, wind, and lack of possible rain will make it a perfect evening for cricket.

The pitch at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium seems to have been made a little more batsman-friendly with the T10s in mind, and while bowlers are still doing well from time to time, expect scores of 115 to be standard fare.

Can the Devils manage to trick the Qalandars into submission? Or will the latter show no sympathy for the Devils? Find out if our Pune Devils versus Qalandars predictions come true on Friday!
