In their most recent match - a thriller against Trinbago Knight Riders that ended with the league leaders winning off the penultimate ball of the match, Barbados Tridents felt a double blow. One was the raw, brutal, gloveless, knuckle-digging punch of Kieron Pollard’s physical strength, and the other was the bitter realization that they need to either win at least two off their last four matches and hope no one crosses them either in pure points or net run rate, or bury their hopes of defending their title before the playoffs begin. Their opponent for their next match will be the high-flying St Lucia Zouks, who are in good spirits after trouncing the Patriots and making their place in the number two spot stable for the time being. The Zouks will be part happy, part disappointed, and part intimidated by what transpired between the Tridents and the Knight Riders. Happy because their opponents will be low on morale, disappointed because Knight Riders will almost certainly finish the league on top now, and intimidated by the sheer depth of the Trinbago team’s batting. Nevertheless, as Guyana and Barbados proved beyond doubt last year, league standings mean absolutely nothing when a playoff follows. For now, that is what the Zouks will look forward to.

Barbados have their backs against the wall, and that is precisely when some people fight their best. Expect Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers to continue their good form with the bat, while Rashid Khan and Raymond Reifer get some Zouk scalps.
