England vs Australia 3rd ODI Match Prediction and Preview

The mark of a good series is when a team loses the first game and adapts to the other team’s tactics or draws from their strengths. Alternatively, an entertaining series is one where the winning team seems to take the negatives from the loser and implement it themselves. Such has been the case of Australia and England, with Australia doing almost the same thing England did in the first game. With the series now level at 1-1, the third match is sure to be a thriller. Compared to the first match, this was more of a low-scoring affair. Fortunate with the toss, England chose to don their pads. From the get go, it was obvious that runs would be difficult to get on this pitch, but the England batsmen were cautious and trudged on. A sudden collapse saw them reduced to 149-8, but the heroics of lower order batsmen, who mysteriously seemed to find it easier to bat than their predecessors, pushed them to a fighting score. 

When Australia went out to bat, they lost two quick wickets but seemed to be on par for the chase. However, a horrific collapse saw them go from 144-2 to 176-9, and try as Alex Carey might, he couldn’t get his team to the target.

Similar to England in the first match, only 3 people scored more than 11 in the entire Australia lineup. Needless to say, captain Aaron Finch and coach Justin Langer need to have a word with the team to figure out what went wrong. Their bowling was fine by comparison, with Adap Zampa and Josh Hazlewood standing out once again - this time with Mitchell Starc joining in.

England on the other hand, despite undoubtedly celebrating their victory, will demand answers from their batsmen as to why two tailenders were able to score better - and at a better strike rate - than the rest of them. Among the batsmen, only captain Eoin Morgan scored at a rate acceptable for one day. Their bowling was also excellent, with Adil Rashid uncharacteristically being almost twice as expensive - or more - as any other bowler. 

ENG vs AUS 3rd ODI match prediction

Unlike the T20 series, we enter the third match with the fate of the series at stake. England, for one, have the momentum and will be intent on continuing their ongoing dominance over Australia. Expect and Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings to get a lot of runs on the board, while Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes prevent Australia from doing the same.

Australia will be no pushovers, and after a collapse like that, they will do their best to bounce back and take the third match like they did the first. Expect Aaron Finch and Alex Carey to excel with the batting, while Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood continue their exploitation of the conditions with the ball.
