IPL Match 16: Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders Prediction and Preview

A few days ago, few would have fancied Kolkata Knight Riders’ chances against Delhi Capitals, but after the former beat then-league-leaders Rajasthan Royals convincingly to climb up to third place, things have changed. At the time of writing, KKR are just below Delhi Capitals, who are prioritized based on run rate. They look like they have come a long way since their first-match defeat against Mumbai Indians, and seem hungrier with every passing game. Delhi on the other hand looked to be very strong this year until their surprise defeat to last place Sunrisers Hyderabad. In this topsy-turvy tournament, getting ahead would be quite a feat, and before either of these teams get the chance to do so, let’s take a look at how they line up against each other.

Delhi Capitals Preview & Form

Delhi were all but slated to win their match against Hyderabad, but it just wasn’t to be. SRH got off to a very slow start, with Jonny Bairstow getting to a half century at a snail’s pace and David Warner not doing much better. Eventually, through Kane Williamson, they managed to escalate to a middling 162. In reply, Delhi players played thoroughly lackluster innings, and only managed to crawl to 147 due to some intent being shown by Shimron Hetmyer and Kagiso Rabada of all people. DC’s bowling is fine, but their batting needs a serious wake-up call if they are going to fall asleep like they did against SRH. 

Kolkata Knight Riders Preview & Form

Few expected KKR to get the best of RR in their match, yet Kolkata almost made it look easy. Although no player stood out head and shoulders in terms of runs, Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan did most of the work to get them to a healthy 174. In reply, Rajasthan never really seemed to get started, playing timidly until a win was pretty much out of reach, and only then did Tom Curran of all players get the only half-century of the match. Not to take away from Kolkata’s bowling, though, as everyone picked up a wicket, and everyone except Sunil Narine kept things very economical. Pat Cummins has really come into his own, and it’s having an effect on his team’s results. Their batting, though, could use a little more consistency.

DC vs KKR Match Prediction

Delhi Capitals seem to have depth in their lineup, and just need to not get complacent. Expect Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw to take control of the runs, while Kagiso Rabada and Amit Mishra take control of the opponents’ runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders have plenty of quality in their side as well, and just need to keep doing what they’ve been doing for the last two games. Expect youngster Shubman Gill to score in tandem with veteran Eoin Morgan, while Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti collect some batsman scalps.
