Although the Karachi Kings will be elated at the loss suffered by the Lahore Qalandars today,

they will nevertheless be wary of Islamabad United’s form, and how much they’ll need to do to catch up. The defending champions are currently in third place, and will have to go through the Multan Sultans in order to equal Islamabad’s current points tally. The Sultans were looking pretty miserable until they took the Qalandars down from their top spot with a commanding performance, and will be eager to stack another win on top of their current record in order to climb up the ladder. It’s the battle between 3 and 4 (at the time of writing) for a passage upward, and before it begins, let’s take a look at how they’ve been doing.

Karachi Kings

Predicted XI

Imad Wasim (c), Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam, Colin Ingram, Daniel Christian, Joe Clarke (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Amir, Waqas Maqsood, Arshad Iqbal.

Preview and form

It’s one thing to be on the losing side after scoring a century in Tests or even ODIs, but going through such a heartbreaking experience in a T20 is indeed painful. Such is the fate that awaited Karachi’s Sharjeel Khan. Batting first against Islamabad United, Sharjeel and Babar Azam put up a massive 176 before falling together, with the former scoring 105 and the latter a much slower 62. A massive 196 seemed to be a great target to set, but Babar’s sloth came back to bite him when KK’s bowlers failed to defend the target. Mohammad Nabi was the pick of the lot with his impressive 4 overs 26 for 1, and Imad Wasim did reasonably well to pick up a wicket and give away 32 for his 4, but the others were awful. Poor Aamer Yamin was massacred for 29 in his only over, and that just about summed up the Kings’ bowling performance as they lost by 5 wickets with 5 balls to go.

Key players

Sharjeel Khan: After a century like that, it’s hard to keep Sharjeel out of this list.

Babar Azam: Finally looking somewhat like his old self again, Babar needs to go one up and be at his best.

Arshad Iqbal: Just because he did poorly in one match, doesn’t mean he’s not full of talent.

Mohammad Amir: Amir was great in the first match, and needs to get his form back.

Multan Sultans

Predicted XI

Mohammad Rizwan (c/wk), Sohaib Maqsood, Chris Lynn, James Vince, Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Carlos Brathwaite, Shahnawaz Dhani, Usman Qadir.

Preview and form

If revenge is indeed a dish best served cold, the Sultans have just handed a plate of it to the Qalandars. Bowling first, Carlos Brathwaite’s 4-1-20-2 set things up in the Sultans’ favour, while Shahnawaz Dhani’s double wicket haul and Usman Qadir’s decent 31 for 1 helped limit the Qalandars for 157 - which is a relatively easy target on this pitch. Next, Mohammad Rizwan was in his element as has been usual, and his 76 off 49 and Sohaib Maqsood’s 61 off 41 were enough to get the Sultans over their target with 7 wickets and 22 deliveries to spare.

Key players

Mohammad Rizwan: Rizwan is in absolutely ridiculous form, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.

Sohaib Maqsood: The 33-year-old Pakistani seems to be in good nick with two solid innings back to back.

Shahnawaz Dhani: The young fast bowler seems to be in good nick, even if he leaks runs at times.

Carlos Brathwaite: Trust a West Indian to pitch in with an excellent performance when least expected.

Karachi Kings vs Multan Sultans weather conditions and pitch report

It should be pretty windy during the match, but other than that, things should be excellent for cricket, with moderate temperatures, low humidity, and little to no chance of rain.

The pitch in Karachi, despite offering some juice for fast bowlers, seems to be a batsman’s pitch to utilize, and only those who can’t will face losses. With no team having won batting first at the time of writing, it is imperative that whoever wins the toss elects to field.

Can the Kings make a statement about their champion status? Or will the Sultans show them that they’re here to challenge for the crown? Find out if our Karachi Kings versus Multan Sultans predictions come true on Saturday!
