Up next on the Abu Dhabi T10 League docket is a clash between two struggling teams that are separated only by net run rate. The Maratha Arabians are in last place in the Super League table as opposed to Team Abu Dhabi’s 5th place, but there’s really very little to it. The biggest difference between the two teams becomes apparent when you look at their lineups. While the Arabians have a mixed bag of low-level players with a couple of big stars, almost the entire Team Abu Dhabi squad is made up of stars. That being said, the two teams are even on points for a reason, so expect a firecracker of a competition. Before the fuse is lit, let’s take a look at the two teams.

Maratha Arabians

Predicted XI

Mosaddek Hossain (c), Abdul Shakoor (wk), Muktar Ali, Laurie Evans, Amjad Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Yamin Ahmadzai, Sompal Kami, Ishan Malhotra, Sohag Gazi, Kevin Koththigoda.

Preview and form

The Arabians may have been up against a very strong and in-form Qalandars lineup, but the way they played was far from ideal. Batting first, Mohammad Hafeez started decently with a 44 from 26, but apart from Shoaib Malik’s slow 23 from 16, there was just no support for the team, and the side ended their innings on an inadequate 101. On the defense, Yamin Ahmedzai took two for 21, Shoaib Malik managed to take a wicket for just 6 runs off his solitary over, and Kevin Koththigoda only gave away 5 runs off his own singular over, but it just wasn’t enough as the Arabians lost by 4 wickets well ahead of the 10 overs.

MA Key players

  • Mohammad Hafeez: Arguably the best batsman on the team, Hafeez simply needs to carry the batting on his able shoulders.

  • Mosaddek Hossain: As Abdul Shakoor is failing time and again, the time has come for the captain to promote himself up the order and hit a few out of the park.

  • Yamin Ahmadzai: With a dual haul last game, Yamin Ahmadzai will be looking to increase his wickets tally.

  • Kevin Koththigoda: The young Lankan leggie showed some skill in his very first appearance, and we hope he’ll get to prove himself further.

Team Abu Dhabi

Predicted XI

Luke Wright (c), Joe Clarke, Leonardo Julien (wk), Obed McCoy, Jamie Overton, Rohan Mustafa, Usman Shinwari, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ben Duckett, Chris Gayle, Najibullah Zadran, Paul Stirling.

Preview and form

One would typically expect a lot better from a team as star-studded as Team Abu Dhabi, but that hasn’t been the case. Four matches in, they only have one win to their name, and look like they’re struggling quite a bit. In their last match, they batted first against the Northern Warriors, and despite a horror start, they managed to come back somewhat, with Luke Wright’s 33, Joe Clarke’s 50, and Ben Duckett’s 31 hoisting them to a decent 123. While defending that target, however, they simply couldn’t do much with the ball until the very last over, when Jamie Overton picked up two wickets. Alas, it wasn’t enough to give them the victory, and they lost off of the last ball by 8 wickets.

TAD Key players

  • Joe Clarke: In top form, Clarke will be entrusted with the tough job of getting the bulk of the runs.

  • Luke Wright: After a decent innings in the last match, Wright will gain some more confidence and perhaps do better.

  • Obed McCoy: Only managing to stay relatively economical in the last match, McCoy has plenty of potential to become a deadly force with the ball.

  • Jamie Overton: Something of a hit-or-miss player, Overton can be deadly on a good day.
