With no late-game shenanigans from a Sri Lankan tailender unlike the first match, Tuesday’s match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka turned out to be a match only Bangladesh fans enjoyed. The home side have now sealed the series, and although the third match should only be a formality as far as series results go, the word ‘whitewash’ looms large in the minds of both teams, with one gunning for it and the other desperate to avoid it. What makes it more interesting is the Cricket World Cup Super League points on offer - a table Bangladesh currently, due to bizarre circumstances and an even stranger format, tops. Before the two teams meet up for one last time this season, let’s take a look at how they’ve been doing.

Bangladesh

Predicted XI for 3rd ODI vs Sri Lanka

Tamim Iqbal (c), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah Riyad, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Afif Hossain.

Bangladesh team preview and form

Being back to winning ways is always great, and considering the realistic chance of leading the CWCSL table when the dust settles, the Tigers won’t want to leave anything to chance. Choosing to bat first, they got off to a poor start before Mushfiqur Rahim once again came in with a match-winning 125 off just 127, with Mahmudullah Riyad being his only support this time with a 41 off 58 of his own. Defending 246, Bangladeshi bowlers then did what they do best at home, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman picking up 3 each, and Shakib Al Hasan striking twice to bring Sri Lanka to their knees before rain stopped play and DLS awarded the home side the win.

Bangladesh key players for 3rd ODI vs Sri Lanka

Mushfiqur Rahim: When a batter is in such form, you trust them to continue.

Mahmudullah Riyad: While he’s not doing as well as Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah is nevertheless providing excellent support.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: If Mushfiqur is in top form with the bat, Miraz is in similar touch with the ball.

Mustafizur Rahman: The Fizz’s figures in the last match were reminiscent of his early days in the team, which is saying something.

Sri Lanka

Predicted XI for 3rd ODI vs Bangladesh

Kusal Perera (c), Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Isuru Udana, Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lakshan Sandakan, Pathum Nissanka.

Sri Lanka team preview and form

Hardly the series they would have wanted to have on their outing, the Lankans will be in damage control mode as the team they once dominated is ripping them apart. Asked to field, they put on a solid bowling performance, with Dushmantha Chameera and Lakshan Sandakan’s triple hauls being helped by Isuru Udana’s stereo strikes to bowl Bangladesh out in the 49th over. However, that was the last bit of triumph the visitors had as the only batsmen among them to cross into the 20s were Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka. Before long, the Lankan Lions found themselves wincing at 140/9 before the rain put them out of their misery via DLS.

Sri Lanka key players for 3rd ODI vs Bangladesh

Kusal Perera: For the sake of his captaincy, Perera will try his best to do something special in this match.

Pathum Nissanka: The youngster has the skill, and we believe his execution will fall in place this time around.

Dushmantha Chameera: After a top-tier performance, Chameera will be pumped for more.

Lakshan Sandakan: Sandakan seems to be alternating with Wanindu Hasaranga on taking wickets, but if both have a good day, their team might, too.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI pitch report and weather conditions

As we’ve stated before, the two-paced Dhaka pitch has been anything but easy for the batsmen from either team, with the away side naturally struggling a lot more. Expect bowlers to rule the roost, teams to choose to bat first, and first innings score of 250+ to be par.

Although the possibility of rain extends until well into the afternoon, play should resume afterwards with little or no interruptions. The air will be hot and humid, but not enough to prevent the proceedings from sailing smoothly.

Can Bangladesh get their first whitewash against the Lankans? Or will the visitors bounce back to scrape a spoonful of dignity out of what has thus far been plenty of embarrassment? Find out if our Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka 3rd ODI predictions come true on Friday!
