Up next on the IPL docket is a battle between the current top team vs the current bottom team. Not many expected Chennai Super Kings to have such a great start to the season, but they have proven their doubters wrong by being in the very reverse of the situation they were in this time last season. After putting an end to RCB’s dominance and taking over the lead, CSK will now take on a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have just one win from 5 matches and desperately need more. With morale in tatters, SRH must find a way to outplay the Super Kings if they are to stay alive in this tournament. Before the two teams clash their swords, let’s take a look at how they’ve been doing.

Chennai Super Kings

Predicted XI vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

MS Dhoni (c/wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur, Moeen Ali, Lungi Ngidi, Suresh Raina, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar.

Chennai Super Kings team preview and form

Cricket is very much a team game, but individual performances can sometimes lift a team up to a whole other level. Batting first against RCB in an important match, Ruturaj Gaikwad (33 from 25) and Faf du Plessis (50 off 41) gave CSK a decent foundation, but what would have been an average total was made extraordinary by Ravindra Jadeja (62 off 28), who, when he was 26 off 22, suddenly sparked up to take 37 off one over (including a no-ball) to take his team to a commanding 191. When it came time to bowl, it was once again Jadeja who picked up 3-13 along with a maiden, and with Imran Tahir’s 4-0-16-2 and Shardul Thakur’s 4-0-11-1, crushed their opponents by 69 runs.

Chennai Super Kings key players vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Faf du Plessis: Consistent and reliable, du Plessis has been the anchor of CSK.

Suresh Raina: Even after a season off, Raina still has every bit of the skill he ever did.

Ravindra Jadeja: The very definition of a genuine all-rounder when in form.

Shardul Thakur: Shardul may not have struck many times, but he knows how to keep batsmen struggling.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Predicted XI vs Chennai Super Kings

David Warner (c), Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Virat Singh, Jagadeesha Suchith, Kedar Jadhav, Rashid Khan, Siddharth Kaul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed.

Sunrisers Hyderabad team preview and form

It was heartbreak as usual for the Sunrisers when they faced the Capitals. Fielding first, none of their bowlers were particularly effective except Siddharth Kaul with two wickets, but they were economical enough to keep the target at a chase-able 160. Their chase began superbly as Jonny Bairstow rushed to 38 off 18 and Kane Williamson held strong, but a collapse ensured, and SRH found themselves barely scraping into a Super Over. As is usual with Williamson and Super Overs, however, they ended up losing after only getting 7 due to some poor running.

Sunrisers Hyderabad key players vs Chennai Super Kings

Kane Williamson: As usual, the Kiwi captain is rock-solid under and circumstances.

Jonny Bairstow: England has known few harder hitters than an in-form Bairstow.

Rashid Khan: Still struggling to take wickets, we hope the Delhi pitch will be where he shines.

Siddharth Kaul: Adding some much-needed incisiveness to the SRH bowling attack is Kaul.

Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad pitch report and weather conditions

The Arun Jaitley Stadium, still known to many as Feroz Shah Kotla, has been a relatively low-scoring pitch in recent years, with batters struggling to time the ball and spinners revelling in the conditions. Expect teams winning the toss to look to bowl, and first innings total to hover in the 150s.

Searing heat and nosebleed humidity will be the order of the day, with the only respite being the promise of a bit of a breeze. This also means there won’t be any rain, so good for cricket.

Can the Super Kings stay on top of the table with another triumph? Or will the Sunrisers be the team that stops their apparent rampage? Find out if our CSK vs SRH predictions come true on Wednesday!
