After losing to them no fewer than 4 times last season - including in the final, the Delhi Capitals will be dying for revenge against the Mumbai Indians. Currently just above their foes on the table, this would also enable them to strengthen their existence in second place. MI on the other hand are recovering quickly from their initial stumble, and are hot on the heels of DC and looking to breeze past them once again. There’s no doubt that last year, MI had DC’s number, but this year, anything can happen. Before the two heavyweights collide once more for increased control of the top of the table, let’s take a look at how they stand.

Delhi Capitals

Predicted XI vs Mumbai Indians

Rishabh Pant (c/wk), Lalit Yadav, Lukman Meriwala, Avesh Khan, Chris Woakes, Prithvi Shaw, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, Steven Smith.

Delhi Capitals team preview and form

It’s always a reassuring feeling when one aspect of your team picks up on the slack when the other has been lacking. Bowling first against Punjab Kings in their last match, most DC bowlers were smacked around the park, with Ravichandran Ashwin being the only economical bowler and Avesh Khan being the only one of four single-wicket takers who managed to keep his economy rate below double digits. Chasing a formidable 195, Delhi needed one or two big innings, and the answer came in the form of Shikhar Dhawan’s brutal 92 off 49, with fast-paced cameos from Prithvi Shaw (32 off 17) and Marcus Stoinis (27 off 13) helping the cause tremendously. Soon, the Capitals had finished up with 6 wickets and 10 deliveries in hand.

Delhi Capitals key players vs Mumbai Indians

Prithvi Shaw: He may have gotten dismissed early last match, but Shaw is in superb form.

Marcus Stoinis: Stoinis showed some of his hard-hitting skills yesterday, and he is surely hungry for more.

Avesh Khan: The young fast bowler has repeatedly been putting out solid performances.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Back in Chennai, Ashwin will look to exploit his familiar setting.

Mumbai Indians

Predicted XI vs Delhi Capitals

Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan (wk), Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Chris Lynn, Suryakumar Yadav, Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar.

Mumbai Indians team preview and form

Although they’re not performing at their usual imperious best, the Indians are nevertheless getting the job done and getting closer to their usual spot. Batting first against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Quinton de Kock played an uncharacteristically slow innings to get 40 off 39, with Rohit Sharma (32 from 25) for support. Just when Mumbai looked like they would end up with a subpar score, however, big man Kieron Pollard came to the rescue with a fast 35 off 22 to get his team to a respectable 150. On the defense, it looked at one point as though their total would be smashed ahead of time. However, a strong comeback and some truly poor cricket by their opponents gave them a 13-run win, with Rahul Chahar and Trent Boult starring with 3 wickets each, and Jasprit Bumrah keeping things tidy.

Mumbai Indians key players vs Delhi Capitals

Rohit Sharma: The big man hasn’t had a very big score in a while, and he would no doubt like to change that.

Suryakumar Yadav: Despite one subpar score, SKY is still in superb form overall.

Rahul Chahar: Currently in a tight contest for the Purple Cap, Chahar will be a thorn in the side of DC batsmen.

Jasprit Bumrah: India’s most reliable bowler is, as always, a danger under any kind of conditions.

Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians pitch report and weather conditions

Favouring spinners and tough for batsmen due to its tendency to slow the ball down, the pitch at the MA Chidambaram stadium yields below-average-scoring thrillers. Expect teams winning the toss to choose to field, and teams to aim for 165+ in the first innings.

With virtually no chance of rain, plenty of heat, and a slight breeze, Chennai might be a little too hot for players coming from colder regions, but it’ll still be good cricketing conditions.
