Finished.198/4 (18.2) - 195/4 (20) |
Last year, Delhi Capitals’ success on the final day indirectly made sure that Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) couldn’t qualify. After failing to exact revenge upon Chennai Super Kings, the Punjabis will look to get even with the Capitals, hopefully learning from their mistakes to come back stronger. DC on the other hand will keep their eyes fixed on the top spot, which they can take with a win here if the Royal Challengers lose their match earlier tomorrow. With a lot on the line and plenty of firepower on both sides, we can’t wait for this match to get started. Before the Sunday sun shines on the Wankhede, let’s take a look at these two sides.
Delhi Capitals
Predicted XI vs Punjab Kings
Rishabh Pant (c/wk), Ajinkya Rahane, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Chris Woakes, Prithvi Shaw, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje.
Delhi Capitals team preview and form
It may be a hard pill to swallow, but as good a player as he is, Rishabh Pant may not be the best captain for DC right now. Put into bat, the Capitals struggled to get a partnership going before captain Pant cooked up a strong 51 (32). With support from Lalit Yadav and Tom Curran, the Capitals were able to put together a semi-decent 147. On the defense, the Capitals had a fantastic start, taking four wickets within the 8th over while conceding very little. Avesh Khan (3-32), Chris Woakes (2-22), and Kagiso Rabada (2-30) all bowled well to slow the Capitals chase. However, some late power hitting by RR still saw victory being snatched from DC’s grasp.
Delhi Capitals key players vs Punjab Kings
Rishabh Pant: We asked, he delivered. That’s why Pant makes our list yet again.
Marcus Stoinis: The explosive Aussie will be hitting a few long ‘uns, that’s for sure.
Anrich Nortje: The Proteas powerhouse is an intense, passionate fast bowler with talent in troves.
Ravichandran Ashwin: Not being utilized fully by Pant, we suspect Ashwin might soon get very frustrated if current trends continue. Here’s to hoping he gets a good performance in.
Punjab Kings
Predicted XI vs Delhi Capitals
KL Rahul (c/wk), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Dawid Malan, Arshdeep Singh, Shahrukh Khan, Riley Meredith, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Hooda, Jhye Richardson, Mohammad Shami.
Punjab Kings team preview and form
The Kings’ last match must have deflated whatever confidence they had grown, and now they must start again pretty much from scratch. In that match, only one of the 9 batsmen who faced a ball for PBKS managed to get a decent score. Unfortunately, Shahrukh Khan’s 47 (36) came of no use as no one else could cross 15, and the Kings could only put up a miserable 106. On the defense, Mohammad Shami tried his best with 4-0-21-2, and Arshdeep Singh provided good support with 2-0-7-1, but the others weren’t as economical, and PBKS saw their total being overtaken with 4.2 overs to go.
Punjab Kings key players vs Delhi Capitals
KL Rahul: Lokesh is way too talented to flounder for too long.
Shahrukh Khan: An excellent performance by SRK means that he has played his way into this list.
Mohammad Shami: Consistent, committed, and effective.
Arshdeep Singh: The young talent continues to impress this year.
Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings pitch report and weather conditions
Although mostly a batting pitch, the Wankhede Stadium showed the other day that given decent bowling and/or improper shot selection, it’s also possible to have low-scoring matches on the pitch. Nevertheless, it’s still important for teams to aim for 180+, and fast bowlers to exploit the bounce the pitch offers.
Like most of India this time of year, Mumbai should be dry, slightly windy, and moderately humid - a combination that calls for great cricketing action.
Can the Capitals get their second win to climb up the table? Or will the Punjabis manage to improve both their points and their net run rate? Find out if our DC vs PBKS predictions come true on Sunday!
