With the rest of their teams settled, it will be up to the Northern Warriors and the Bangla Tigers to finalize the shape of their group. Currently, both form the middle of Group A, but a sizable win for either could see them toppling group leaders Delhi Bulls and usurping their position. The loser of the match will almost certainly only be third after all, as the Maratha Arabians are just way too far down the net run rate ladder to have any hopes of being outdone in that department. Both teams will want one of the top spots, so as usual, this will be an exciting match. Before the sun shines on the desert sands of Abu Dhabi, let’s take a look at the two teams.

Bangla Tigers

Predicted XI

Andre Fletcher (c), Afif Hossain, Qais Ahmad, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, Chirag Suri, Mohammad Irfan, Karim Janat, George Garton, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Tom Moores (wk).

Preview and form

After being outclassed in their first match, the Bangla Tigers bowling attack seemed to be much too underpowered. Their second match confirmed that fact, but they were lucky to have been spared to a certain degree by one of their opponents’ batsmen. Bowling first against the Maratha Arabians in their last match, the Tigers were unable to pick up a single wicket, but excellent economical spells by Qais Ahmed and Karim Janat saved them from butchery, and they were able to restrict their opponents to an unimpressive 103. On the hunt for their target, the Tigers were messy and scrappy, but Andre Fletchers 31, Johnson Charles’ 23, Afif Hossain’s 22, and Chirag Suri’s 19 were enough to get them across with 6 wickets and 2 overs left.

BT Key players

Andre Fletcher: Seeming to be in much better form here than he ever did at this year’s BBL, Fletcher will be key for a Tigers victory.

Johnson Charles: Absolutely brutal with the bat, a good innings from Charles can seal the deal for his team.

Qais Ahmed: Yet another young Afghan talent who makes the list of key players for his team. No surprise there.

Karim Janat: Asghar Afghan’s younger brother seems to be quite a talented medium pacer, and is bringing that rare art back into the game.

Northern Warriors

Predicted XI

Nicholas Pooran (c/wk), Fabian Allen, Rayad Emrit, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Rovman Powell, Waseem Muhammad, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Siddique, Lendl Simmons, Wayne Parnell.

Not many people expected the Warriors to win against the Delhi Bulls, and after the first 3 overs, it certainly looked as though they wouldn’t. However, a fantastic comeback saw them not only win, but outright crush their competition. Batting first, they were off to that aforementioned slow - nay, disastrous start, but in came Nicholas Pooran and bludgeoned the ball all around the park, and his 54, Rovman Powell’s 24, and Fabian Allen’s 28 were enough to take the team’s score to a powerful 137. When it was the Bulls’ turn to reply, Wayne Parnell’s hattrick, Rayad Emrit’s double haul, and Wahab Riaz’s economical single wicket made sure the Warriors won by 32 runs.

NW Key players

Nicholas Pooran: After his performance in the previous match, it’s impossible to keep him out of this list.

Rovman Powell: Forgetting the woes of a terrible CPL campaign, Powell seems to have rediscovered himself since playing in Bangladesh, and has been solid since.

Wayne Parnell: A hattrick is an incredible feat in any format, and Parnell will be one to watch out for from now on.

Wahab Riaz: The Pakistani stalwart netted his first wicket today, and experience tells us that it won’t be his last.

Bangla Tigers vs Northern Warriors weather conditions and pitch report

As we have already stated, the temperature will be cool, the humidity tolerable, and the wind a little above average that may affect some aerial shots. Little or no chance for rain will mean unimpeded cricket.

The pitch has plenty in it for all kinds of cricket, and whoever’s in form will be able to take advantage of it - especially given the format.
