Bellerive Oval, Hobart
A well-earned win is a great source of motivation, but an overwhelming rampage that breaks records is just something else. After losing their first match, defending champions Sydney Sixers showed the world what they’re made of by chewing up and spitting out Melbourne Renegades. Now, they’ve set their sights on Adelaide Strikers, a team that first lost to then beat the very team that beat the Sixers earlier, Hobart Hurricanes. The Strikers have gotten themselves on the points table, and are currently right below the Sixers. A win would give either team an important advantage, and there’s also the Bash Boost points to play for. Before the players don their on-field kits, let’s take a look at the two sides.
Sydney Sixers Preview & Form
The Sixers may have faltered at the start, but they made a roaring statement to the rest of the BBL in their last game. Josh Philippe stood tall with a powerful 95 that formed the foundation of the inning, with solid contributions such as Daniel Hughes’ 32 and especially Jordan Silk’s 45 helping boost it to a formidable 205. Expecting to defend an onslaught from Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, SS were instead treated to a barrage of catching opportunities afforded by ambitious or poor shots by MR batsmen. After only 10.4 overs, they came off the field with a gigantic 145 run win.
Adelaide Strikers Preview & Form
While the Strikers’ batting has been less than inspiring for the most part, they managed to get the job done when facing the Hurricanes a second time - although thanks largely to the bowlers. The first half of the match was mostly about Peter Siddle as the veteran fast bowler ran riot on the Hurricanes’ batting lineup, picking up 5 for only 16 off his 3.3 overs to restrict the opposition to a modest 146. On the chase, it was a literal 2-man show, as despite the early loss of Phil Salt and Matt Renshaw, Jake Weatherald’s 68 and Alex Carey’s 55 safely put the match in the Strikers’ grasp. Even after Jonathan Wells’ horrid 8 from 16, they were able to win comfortably.
SS vs AS Predictions
Despite the big win, the Sixers still have plenty to prove. Expect Josh Philippe and Daniel Hughes to get a large chunk of the runs, while Ben Dwarshuis and Steve O’Keefe show their excellence with the ball.
The Strikers will also have confidence from their own win, and taking down the Sixers will be a solid boost to their own morale. Expect Phil Salt and Alex Carey to do good work with the bat, while Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle take out the batsmen.
Can the Sixers reassert their dominance with a second win? Or will the Strikers take them off of their high? Find out if our Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers predictions come true on Sunday!
