Bellerive Oval, Hobart
After their virtual double bill with the Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes are back to fight against Melbourne Renegades. They have 7 points from 3 matches, and are still in second place, though they’ve played one match more than the 4 teams that can overtake them with a sizable win. They’ll want to go back to their earlier form in order to stay in the top 4 no matter what. In the other corner, the Renegades on the other hand took a violent beating last time around, with records being broken and dignity being flushed down the drain. Now, every player in the team will be dying to get a win to wash down the embarrassment with. This won’t just be a match for points - it will be a battle for dignity. Before the bugle sounds, let’s take a look at the teams.
Hobart Hurricanes Preview & Form
Losing on the trot is harder, but losing after consecutive wins is, strangely, harder. HH will have to bounce back not just from a point deficit, but also a blow to team morale. In their last game, their opening duo failed completely, and it was up to middle order batsmen Ben McDermott and Colin Ingram to rescue the inning. While it was achieved to a certain extent, the lack of any input from the lower order meant their total was a semi-decent 146. HH’s bowlers were off to a good start, with Faulkner taking two in the first over, but they just couldn’t get the opposition’s middle order out in time, and ended up losing by 5 wickets.
Melbourne Renegades Preview & Form
Speaking of recovering from a loss, we honestly can’t imagine what it’s like in the Renegades’ camp right now. There’s losing, and there’s losing on a scale hitherto unprecedented. After their bowlers were absolutely battered by Sydney Sixers batsmen - with only Peter Hatzoglou doing an even remotely decent job with two wickets, their batsmen were absolutely hopeless. For context, their highest score was 13, and they had 4 ducks in their lineup, with lousy shot selection and careless batting rampant. In the end, MR lost by a whopping 145 runs, and were bowled out in just 64 deliveries. We try to keep these articles objective for the most part, but this was pathetic.
HH vs MR Predictions
With MR falling on hard times, it’s a good opportunity for the Hurricanes to sneak to the top until others catch up. Expect Matthew Wade and Colin Ingram to get the runs, while Nathan Ellis and James Faulkner pick up important wickets.
It’s important for the Renegades to bounce back, and hopefully a stumbling HH is just what they need. Expect Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Cameron Boyce, and Kane Richardson to put in good performances.
Can the Hurricanes get a win they more or less expect? Or will the Renegades succeed in availing the best possible way to restore their spirits? Find out if our Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades prediction comes true on Saturday!
