BB T20 Cup 2nd Qualifier: Beximco Dhaka vs Gazi Group Chattogram Predictions

It’s the third and final chapter in the great inter-city rivalry between the port city and the capital in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Beximco Dhaka have arrived at this match on the back of a triumph over Fortune Barishal, while Gazi Group Chattogram’s dominant streak has been ended by Gemcon Khulna. Dhaka were the only team to beat Chattogram in the league stage, but the other encounter between them was one to forget for them. Both teams have plenty of firepower, and either might come up top in this climactic clash. Before it starts, let’s go over the teams and how they got here.

Beximco Dhaka preview & form

It hasn’t been an easy tournament for Dhaka, but at least they managed to get revenge on Barishal for preventing them from climbing up to the qualifier slot. Batting first, Dhaka had a terrible start and was down to 22-3 after 5.5 overs. However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali held the fort with 43 and 54 respectively, and with the help of a cameo from Akbar Ali, took the score to a stable 150. Their performance with the ball, however, was much better, although some of them were expensive. Muktar Ali picked up 3 wickets in just 2 overs, while Shafiqul Islam took another trio. Robiul Islam Robi only took one wicket, but his enviable economy rate of 3.75 was absurdly good. Dhaka managed to limited Barishal to 141 for a 9-run win.

Gazi Group Chattogram preview & form

After only one loss in the league stage, Chattogram would have fancied getting through to the finals through the shortest path possible, but Jahurul Islam and Mashrafe Mortaza stood in their way. Chittagong’s bowling, usually incisive, failed today as most bowlers gave away over 10 an over. Only Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain did relatively well with figures of 3.4-0-31-2 (2 beamers in an over caused him to be banned from bowling his last two deliveries) and 4-0-27-1 respectively. Their chase also didn’t pan out as Soumya Sarkar was out for a golden duck, and Liton Das fell for 24. Mohammad Mithun did well for his 50, but it just wasn’t to be. In the end, Chattogram lost by a sizable 47 runs.

With everything to play for, Dhaka’s best players have been coming alive as of late. Expect Yasir Ali and Mushfiqur Rahim to ace their roles, while Muktar Ali and Robiul Islam Robi contain the batsmen. 

With their erstwhile utopian world suddenly crashing around them, Chattogram will be forced to fight for survival. Expect Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar to get it right this time, while Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam get back their form.
