BB T20 Cup Qualifier 1: Gazi Group Chattogram vs Gemcon Khulna Predictions

In the first qualifier of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup we have Gazi Group Chattogram going up against Gemcon Khulna. The two have had considerably different campaigns, with one having started weak and finished weak, and the other having been the dominant force throughout. Nevertheless, now the two are on even footing and either one can send the other careening down to a knockout match. Chattogram definitely have the upper hand with their sheer form, but Khulna’s lineup is dangerous and they have everything they need to trump their way to the final. Before this intense encounter begins, let’s take a look at the two teams.

Gazi Group Chattogram Preview & Form

After having dominated the league stage, Gazi Group Chattogram will be hoping they can imitate Trinbago Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians to march to the cup. In their last match, they were pretty much given the power to keep or oust Minister Rajshahi, and they chose the latter. Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar started strong to give their team a 122 run foundation, and Shamsur Rahman played a cameo knock to lift them to 175. Chittagong then proceeded to display another bowling masterclass, with Nahidul Islam and Ziaur Rahman being the stars this time around with 5 scalps between them. In the end, Chattogram won by a comfortable 36 runs. 

Gemcon Khulna Preview & Form

Unlike Chattogram, Khulna were far from dominating in the league stage. In fact, with 4 wins and 4 losses, they only made it to second place because the others did worse. In their last match, their bowlers couldn’t do much despite a few decent efforts, and Dhaka piled up 179 for them to chase. Despite Jahurul Islam’s wonderful 53, and Shamim Hossain’s quickfire 24, no one else on Khulna could perform as required, and they ended up being bowled out 20 runs short. If they are to beat Chattogram, several of their players are going to have to improve. This goes double for Shakib Al Hasan, who has only scored 82 runs and taken 5 wickets in 8 matches. 

GGC vs GK Predictions

Chattogram have beaten Khulna twice already - including an absolute humiliation - and they can do it yet again. Expect Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar to lead from the front, while Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam display their deadliness with the ball.

Sore from their aforementioned losses, Khulna will be hell bent on firing one back. Expect Mahmudullah Riyad and Jahurul Islam to score plenty of runs, while Shohidul Islam and Shuvagata Hom pick up important wickets.
