BB T20 Cup Match 16: Gazi Group Chattogram vs Gemcon Khulna Predictions

Very few teams go through the span of a league without any losses, and sadly for Gazi Group Chattogram, they couldn’t join the hallowed halls of such teams. Despite beating Beximco Dhaka to a pulp earlier in the series, they ended up falling to them the second time around. Next up, Chattogram faces a resurgent Gemcon Khulna, and although they battered Khulna just as badly, they will be more careful after their second encounter with Dhaka. After a slow start, Khulna have really turned their fortunes around and are now even with Chattogram on points. It’s hard to accept when a team you had demolished comes back to beat you - albeit by a far narrower margin - and Chattogram will be rueing perhaps being a little complacent. Their bowlers, despite being good early on and mostly economical overall, couldn’t strike as hard as they usually do. Shoriful Islam in particular was very expensive, and Dhaka managed to get to a defendable 145 off the back of Mushfiqur Rahim’s stormy 73. While chasing, Liton Das was his usual brilliant self for his 47, but other than Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mohammad Mithun, no one else could cross the 20 mark, and Chittagong could only reach 138. Falling short in both departments, Mohammad Mithun’s men will have to improve if they are to beat an in-form Khulna.

Gemcon Khulna Preview & Form

Sometimes a resurgent team is better than an in-form team, as they have more fire in them. Khulna had a very weak start, but they seem to finally be coming into their own. In their last match, their bowlers forced Minister Rajshahi to keep things quiet, and limited them to 145 with Shuvagata Hom picking up two. While assailing the target, Jahurul Islam played a healthy knock up top to set things up, and with help from Imrul Kayes and a special late flourish by Mahmudullah Riyad, they were able to make it through with 4 deliveries and 5 wickets to spare. Khulna are finally living up to their level on paper, and it will be tough to take them down now as long as they don’t get overconfident.

Predictions

One bad game doesn’t define a team, and Chattogram can be expected to come back hard. Expect Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam to strike with the ball, while Liton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy do well with the bat.

With Khulna’s firepower unleashed, they will most likely be dominating for a while longer. Expect Mahmudullah Riyad and Ariful Haque to score plenty, while Shohidul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan pick up important scalps.
