With a solitary win and four losses, Fortune Barishal are gradually proving Tamim Iqbal’s words. The team just isn’t performing at the same level as others, and there’s a very clear skill gap between their youngsters and the veterans of other squads that’s becoming more and more apparent as the tournament progresses. With the big man in form, though, anything is possible, and this next match will be vital to their revival if there is one. Minister Rajshahi can feel their pain, though. In a terrible reversal of fortunes, they have sunken all the way to fifth place. Should they lose this, they will be equal on points with Barishal, and at real risk of slipping out of the qualification slots. It seems as though things are going from bad to worse for the underdogs at this tournament. Not only are they understrength, but the form of their younger players has been at a worrying low. In their last match, they chose to field first against Gemcon Khulna. Despite getting an early wicket, their bowlers were battered for the most part as Khulna got to a handsome 173. Only Kamrul Islam Rabbi shined with a 3-wicket haul, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz was relatively economical. Things didn’t improve during the chase, as despite a 32 from Tamim Iqbal and a 33 from Towhid Hridoy, Barishal lacked any other good innings and bombed out for a mere 125. If their batsmen don’t improve, there’s really very little point in them continuing to play. 

Minister Rajshahi Preview & Form

It seemed a long, long time ago now that Minister Rajshahi were at the top of the table. In fact, it looks downright unlikely that they ever were. In their last game, captain Nazmul Islam Shanto led from the front with a handsome 55 off 38, but the only support he had came from Nurul Hasan, who chipped in with a lovely 37 off 21. With everyone else doing poorly, however, they could only get to a tepid 145. In reply, Khulna started well and continued well, and although Mukidul Islam struck twice, he was expensive, and the others weren’t much better despite being more economical. Like Barishal, Rajshahi also have serious batting shortcomings that they need to rectify.

Given that this might just be their last chance to come back into the tournament bar a miracle, Barishal’s players will play their hearts out. Expect Tamim Iqbal and Towhid Hridoy to continue their good form, while Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Taskin Ahmed pick up important wickets.

Rajshahi has more of a buffer than Barishal, but that will be minimized if they lose this. Expect Najmul Hossain Shanto, Fazle Mahmud, Mukidul Islam, and Arafat Sunny to shine in their areas of expertise.
