SCL: Qualifier 2: Mis Ainak Knights vs Band-e-Amir Dragons Prediction and Preview

15.09.2020, 14:00 IST
Kabul International Cricket Stadium
As the tournament reaches its last legs, only three teams remain. Kabul Eagles, who are already through to the finals, and Mis Ainak Knights and Band-e-Amir Dragons, who must duke it out to join the aforementioned. It’s the same 3 teams that were involved in the last two playoff matches of the last two seasons of the Shpageeza. While BEAD are on a high after winning their eliminator, defending champions MAK will be cursing themselves for losing their qualifier - especially after getting a massive first inning score. In last year’s final, the Knights bested the Dragons, while in the season before, it was reversed. This year they meet one game earlier. In this fairytale matchup of Knights and Dragons, anything can happen, and before the story gets told, let’s take a look at the two teams.

Mis Ainak Knights Preview & Form

One of the hardest positions to be in is that of a defending champion. You carry a massive load on your shoulders consisting of expectations and the fear of losing that title. Such might be the nature of what’s plaguing Mis Ainak Knights, who have only had a 50% win rate at this year’s competition. In their qualifier against Kabul, they seemed set for a win when they scored a towering 208 for 3 with Hashmatullah Shahidi’s 52-ball 97 leading the way. Kabul Eagles, though, had other plans as their own onslaught, carried almost entirely by Noor Ali Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai, took them past their target with 5 balls to spare. If there’s one thing Mis Ainak Knights need to learn from this, it’s that they can’t take the defense of any target for granted. Especially not against the team they beat in the final last year.

Band-e-Amir Dragons Preview & Form

As we have said before, the eliminator is a nasty place to be in. Props to BEAD for making it out alive, beating Boost Defenders to meet MAK in the second qualifier. Champions in 2017, and runners-up last year, the Dragons are no strangers to pressure. They undoubtedly have a grudge against the Knights for dethroning them last year, and it should and probably will show in their game. In their eliminator, they scored a towering 232 for 2 spearheaded by Asghar Afghan’s mammoth 95 off just 39. In reply, the Defenders could only manage a thoroughly inadequate 156. Considering the fact that the Knights only once scored less than 179 in the entire tournament, such batting will definitely come in handy.

MAK vs BEAD Match Prediction

The two teams are evenly balanced, but Mis Ainak definitely has the edge on batting consistency. Expect Mohammad Shahzad and Hashmatullah Shahidi to keep that up, while Noor Ahmad and Abdullah Mazari try to limit the opponents.

After the towering 232 today, the Dragons will undoubtedly be confident about beating the Knights. Expect Usman Ghani and Asghar Afghan to keep up their incredible work with the bat, while Sharafuddin Ashraf and Waqar Salamkheil manage things with the ball.
