First match analysis and possibilities
Losing the toss and being put into bat, England lost an early wicket in Bairstow. Tom Banton, on the other hand, blazed away while being supported by Dawid Malan. By the time the latter fell, England were much better off - albeit not in a stellar position. Things were relatively fine until Banton lost his wicket, as it triggered a collapse of 3 more wickets within another 14 runs. There was still some batting firepower left with four overs to go and Sam Billings and Chris Jordan at the crease, but that’s when the elements interfered and, after some waiting, the match was called off.Â
To start our descent into the realm of speculation, it’s highly likely that, given Billings’ recent Bevan-esque performances, he would have powered England to something in the vicinity of 180. Should that have been the case, Pakistan would have been hard pressed to overpower the strong English bowling lineup to top such a score. That being said, this is Pakistan and on a good day, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, and the hard-hitting Shoaib Malik Mohammad Rizwan have been known to fell taller giants. Had this been an ODI with England scoring 300+, Pakistan could probably have been ruled out, but given the nature of T20s, a surprise resurgence might have been possible.Â
2nd T20 Preview and Match Prediction
Despite the positive results as of late, England haven’t looked like the dominating force that other world champion teams have been at times. Although one or two of their players manage to perform in every match, almost every single one has been suffering issues of consistency. Pakistan, of course, will be able to relate. It really does come down to who holds their nerves and shines on the day.Â
Given home advantage, however, England definitely have an edge. Expect Banton to reprise his first match inning with help from Eoin Morgan, and Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan to do damage with the ball.Â
Pakistan will need all their wildcard power to finagle a win out of this. Expect Imad Wasim and Shaheen Shah Afridi to use their bowling talents to the fullest, while Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Rizwan bat solidly.
