The clash between CPL’s two most star studded teams is not one to take lightly. This year, in one corner we have a thoroughly jaded team that failed to capitalize on its dream run last year, and in the other corner we have a team that’s on a dream run of their own in this one. With four wins and zero losses, the Trinbago Knight Riders are riding high and looking poised to win the fourth CPL for their region. On the other hand, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have not been able to make their star power count, and after Barbados’ win against the Tallawahs, are down in fourth place. Their first meeting this season ended with a loss for Guyana. Given the situation, the Knight Riders have all the confidence in the world, while the Guyanese would lose what’s left of their confidence if they don’t at least put up a strong fight. Before the match gets on the way, let’s take a look at how the teams are looking.
Trinbago Knight Riders Preview & Form
Firing on all cylinders, Trinbago are well set to destroy pretty much every other team in the CPL, who are looking pale in comparison. With 4 wins out of 4, the only thing that can be criticized about the team is that their net run rate isn’t exactly stellar - although that is mostly a result of them chasing most of the time. In their last match, the bowlers restricted a resurgent Zouks to a modest total before rain stopped play. Somewhat unfairly, the Knight Riders were given a laughable target of 72 off 9 overs, which they attained with ease. However, DLS is a part of cricket and the Zouks only have their luck to blame. Knight Riders are on a clean run reminiscent of Guyana’s from last year. It’s just a matter of time before we find out if it continues and/or ends differently.
Guyana Amazon Warriors Preview & Form
It’s never easy to falter at the last step only to see your competitor following in your erstwhile glorious footsteps the following year. Guyana have been feeling the sting of a fall from the grace that seems to always elude them somehow. It is imperative that they not let this get to their heads, and concentrate on the task at hand. With two defeats back to back in which their batsmen failed to show, the only team from the only South-American country with a cricket club at the top level will want to address that problem and try to secure a place in the playoffs.
Match Prediction
The Knight Riders might just be carried by their sheer skill and form. Expect Colin Munro and Kieron Pollard to club the balls a long way, while Ali Khan and Sunil Narine work their wonders with the ball.
The Amazons need to stage their comeback quickly, and will be looking to do so at any cost. Expect Keemo Paul and Imran Tahir to be heroes with the ball, while Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran find their form with the bat.
